John Stainer's "The Crucifixion"
St Martin's Church Bladon
Good Friday, 14th April, 2017
Rehearsal 5.30pm : Performance 7.30pm
We hope that you find the experience of singing this meditation enjoyable and uplifting on this, the most solemn day in the Christian Calendar.
There is limited parking in the School playground which is next door to St Martin's Churchyard. A small lane leads from the A4095 opposite the White House public house in Bladon and provides access to the playground on the right hand side. The turning into the lane is very close to the pedestrian crossing and needs care in negotiating the turn.
Bring your own vocal scores of"The Crucifixion", or. alternatively, you can hire a score for a fee of £2 on arrival. We shall be using the Novello Choral Edition.
The Church and Church Room will be open from 5pm. Tea and hot cross buns are available in the Church Room from 5pm until the rehearsal starts at 5.30pm and from 7pm to 7.20pm.
Pews will be clearly marked for the different singing parts, Bass, tenor, alto and soprano. If you do not intend to sing, please fill the pews at the back of the Church. Our Rector, Adrian Daffern (who is an accomplished musician and a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists) will conduct. Our soloists are Jonathan Todd (tenor), Josef Herman (bass) and the organist is David Knight. If you would like to sing, know the piece but cannot get to the rehearsal, please come along and join us at 7.30.
There is no entrance fee, but there will be a collection after the performance to cover the costs.
